3 Podcasts You Should Listen to While Traveling

For four years, I drove 4.5 hours each way to and from college on weekends by myself....and those long drives were the catalyst as to why and how I became a podcast junkie. While some people might consider this statement a stretch, I really believe that Christian based podcasting has been a game changer in my faith. Through podcasts, I've learned how to better manage my relationships (with God, family and friends), learn deep analyses of scripture and have even picked up a few marketing tips along the way!

Sometimes, life can get hectic, so to save you time, I've narrowed my LONG list of podcasts down to three of my favorites.

Matters of culture should matter to us—because they matter to God. Hosted by Adam Griffin and Adam Hawkins, the Culture Matters podcast explores the intersection of faith and culture. Looking at everything from politics, art and entertainment to issues such as racial reconciliation and the sanctity of human life, we discuss what it looks like to live faithfully on mission—in the world but not of the world.

Culture Matters was the first podcast that I subscribed to. I came across it just like how you are now - by reading it in someone else's blog post talking about great podcasts for Christian college students. Griffin and Hawkins provide great explanations of topics in society and voice thought provoking insights on ways Christians can respond to these topics. This podcast has covered an array of subjects from social issues to celebrities, movies, music videos, sports and even Broadway musicals (Yes, there is an episode on Hamilton!). If you want an easy listening podcast for drives, this one is PERFECT!

Host Blake Guichet is a wife, mom, friend, business owner, and yes, a Crappy Christian. The podcast runs the gamut on topics, but the foundation is to talk about our weaknesses AND the things we're really great at in order to point people back to Christ. Confessions of a Crappy Christian is all about peoples' stories, boasting in our weaknesses and how Christ's power is made perfect in those moments.

This is the most recent podcast I have started listening to, but it has quickly become one of my favorites to the point where I have probably sent my friends every single episode of it over the course of the last month. A few days ago, I listened to an episode that talked about what Christ-like friendship does/does not look like and how to seek out Biblical based friendships in a broken, dark world (Kelly Needham was a special guest on this episode, and after listening, I immediately went on the hunt to find her new book, Friendish). I can't say enough amazing things about this podcast, and would definitely recommend this one for young adult females. Listening to the new episode of Confessions of a Crappy Christian on Mondays are a great start to my week, and has encouraged my faith and passion to want to chase after the Lord and His love for me even on my worst days.

The creators of The Bible Project have in-depth conversations about biblical theology. It is a companion podcast to The Bible Project videos found at thebibleproject.com.

Do you ever find yourself lost in the Bible...but not really in a good way? The Bible Project is a group of people who seek to make the message of God’s Word as clear and relatable as it possibly can be. One of my top struggles as a Christian is taking time out of my day to read my Bible, but this podcast really has helped me stay on track. This podcast, unlike Culture Matters and Confessions of Crappy Christian, is integreated across multiple sources - the podcast, videos and a Bible reading plan to not only help you read, but actually understand the Bible. Understanding the Bible can be mind boggling, so I mark it down as a win to find a resource that can help us do it well. If you are interested in theology or don't know where to start when thinking about trying to read the Bible, definitely check this one out.

All in all, podcasts are on the rise in our culture, and with that, there is a new opportunity to reach unbelievers in a dark world. Whether it’s through advice about how to be a Christian in the modern world or listening to sermons, these podcasts are some of my favorite. I love them, and hopefully you might love one (or more) too!
